Alfons Carrascosa
Alfons Carrascosa studied saxophone and clarinet at Taller de Músics de Barcelona. Afterwards he extended his studies in Boston and New York.
As a saxophonist he played with many of the best national musicians at clubs and festivals, and he had the opportunity to record two cd´s on his behalf and multiple recordings as a sideman. He was a member of the big band of Jazz Terrassa, where he shared the stage with international artists such as Dick Oatts, Randy Brecker, Dennis Rowland, Leo Tabackin...
Then he created his own big band “BAB” (two cd’s “Invisible Way. Fresh sound” and “Metròpolis 8 ciutats.Nòmada 57”).
From here, he developed a large part of his musical discourse, given the impossibility to continue with his instrumentalist facet due to health problems.
As an arranger he has been closely linked to Joan Chamorro project “Sant Andreu jazz band”, where he has produced many arrangements for big band, as well as to“Motis/Chamorro profesional big band”. He also participates in the cd project “Joan Chamorro nonet, plays the A. Carrascosa arranjaments”.
In his role as an arranger, he has collaborated with many formations, such the big band of Taller de Músics, Orq Sinfònica del Vallès…also with many projects and works on request both big band formations or camera format (quartet of saxophones, instrumental ensembles...).
He has been dedicated to education for more than 30 years, giving improvisation, instrumental ensemble and big band classes, either as a teacher of Taller de Músics and many other schools or participating in many national work shops or abroad.
