Chuck Sher

Chuck Sher

Chuck Sher has been a practicing jazz musician since 1970. In 1979 he self-published his first book, "The Improvisor's Bass Method" and that was the start of Sher Music Co. His first book got great reviews and endorsements from Eddie Gomez, Rufus Reid, David Friesen, etc. and led to his being able to publish "The New Real Book" later in the '80s. That book was the first good, legal alternative to the old, illegal Real Book and it put Sher Music Co. on the map. That was followed by his publishing classics works by Mark Levine, "The Jazz Piano Book" and "The Jazz Theory Book," both immediate best-sellers which remain so to this day. With over 100 song books and method books for both jazz and Latin Music, Sher Music Co. is the premier small music publisher in the world, as evidenced by endorsements from Chick Corea, Michael Brecker, Esperanza Spalding, Joe Henderson, John Patitucci, etc. etc. Because he is a musician first, his dedication to quality is a given.

"I put out books that I use myself on the gig, so I want them to be accurate, easy to read and of the highest quality," Sher says. "We hope you agree and get many years of pleasure from our labors of love."
