Erwin Schmidt
Erwin Schmidt was born in Vienna in 1955. Upon recommendation of a teacher he started to take piano lessons at the age of 8. He studied classical piano and after secondary education he graduated from the Konservatorium Vienna / Jazz class Prof. Fritz Pauer.
Since then Erwin Schmidt works as a professional musician and plays the piano as well as the Hammond organ. As one of the top pianists in Europe he is very much in demand and has played concerts, festivals and toured in the USA, in Europe and Asia with Ray Charles, Kevin Mahogany, Ingrid Jensen, Karl Ratzer, Heinz von Hermann, Carole Alston and many others. Erwin Schmidt has many engagements with his trio and has performed in various jazz clubs around the world, in the Musikverein Vienna, at the Jazzherbst Salzburg, Jazzfestival Frauenfeld as well as private functions.
Additionally, to own CD productions ‘Movin’, ‘Dorothy’s Valentine’, ‘Tempus Fugit’, ‘For My Sisters’, ’My Little Brown Book’, ‘What Now My Love’, ‘Turn It On’, ‘Women’, he performed and recorded with numerous friends and artist fellows e.g. Christian Havel, Heinz von Hermann; Andi Weiss, Martin Fuss, Uli Langthaler, Hans Salomon, Toni Stricker, Rudi Berger, Marianne Mendt,...
Alongside his many performances Erwin Schmidt has also been a teacher at the University of Music in Vienna (MDW) and at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz (KUG), as well as a lecturer at many workshops and seminars.
