Paloma Cosano
Paloma Cosano is a composer, arranger, and multi-instrumentalist from Seville (Spain).
She develops her artistic career across classical music, flamenco, and jazz—genres that converse naturally in her work. Her rigorous academic background and international experience underpin a rich and versatile career.
She graduated with honors in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music of Madrid in 2015 while simultaneously immersing herself in jazz at the Escuela Creativa. She went on to earn a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, alongside an Advanced Specialization Grant from the AIE (Asociación de Intérpretes y Ejecutantes). At Berklee, she specialized in Jazz Composition, served as the official flutist for the Berklee Concert Jazz Orchestra, worked as an arranger and performer at the Berklee Performance Center, and received the department’s “Tadd Dameron Award” before graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2020. That same year, she earned a Master’s degree in Music Research from the International University of Valencia (VIU).
Since 2022, she has taught Composition at TAI College of Arts in Madrid. That year marked the release of her debut Big Band album, Paloma y Otros Pájaros, which won both the 1st Prize of the Jury and Audience Award at the 2023 Guía del Jazz Composition Contest.
She is also the co-founder of Mestizas, a female ensemble with which she released the album El alma de la olvidada and toured across Boston, Miami, New York, and Spain, including Madrid's Festival de la Hispanidad.
She recently released her second Big Band album—an extension of her debut—solidifying her position as one of the most promising emerging voices in contemporary orchestral jazz in Spain. Her innovative and deeply sensitive approach brings a fresh, youthful, and distinctly female perspective, opening an exciting new chapter in her artistic journey.
