Description
This concert work was commissioned by the University of Northern Iowa Jazz Band One and recorded on their acclaimed 2015 album “Local Color.” Inspired by modal writing of Wayne Shorter for Weather Report, this has a relaxed straight 8th note groove. The haunting melody floats over the top of the band with female voice and organ. Title is inspired by the Amur River in far eastern Russia, entitled as a gift to Jack’s wife Oksana.
