Description
By George was commissioned for the 2017 Fred Sturm Jazz Celebration at Lawrence University, and composed in honor of my friend and fellow composer George Stone (the bass line at the beginning is lifted directly from George’s arrangement of “Where or When”). Dense polychord structures and challenging solo changes make this a chart for advanced ensembles despite the relatively easy lead trumpet range. 1st solo for tenor/trumpet, 2nd solo for alto/trombone.
