Description
This chart was commissioned by the Spokane Falls Community College Jazz Band and is dedicated to their director, David Larsen. The melody for this funky, modified blues is presented by trumpets, then trombones over dark harmonies, followed by a soft ensemble chorus. There are open solo sections with changes for all the trumpets and then for all the trombones (solos on the recording are by tenor and alto saxophone). A contrapuntal section follows the solos, then the feel changes to fast swing for a roaring shout chorus, followed by a return of the funk for the melody in the saxophones, which leads to a richly scored ending
