Description
E.S.P. was first recorded on January 20, 1965 by the great mid-60s Miles Davis quintet with Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, a very young Tony Williams and Wayne Shorter, who wrote the piece. There's not a huge amount of musical material to work with here, but the 4ths and 5ths in the melody gave me lots of ideas. This is a very challenging piece but has been memorized and performed and awards won by high school groups at Monterey Jazz. Amazing!
