Description
Commissioned by Gene Aitken for the 2010 Shanghai Conservatory of Music Jazz Orchestra, this concert piece is based on a well-known Chinese folk song. Originally designed to feature traditional Chinese instruments with jazz orchestra, this version of the piece features solo piano. It begins with a colorful “orchestral” setting of the folk song theme and transitions into a contemporary setting for jazz orchestra with an open blowing section based on a minor blues. Trumpet I to written D6. No woodwind doubles.
