This Renaissance English liturgical song, dating back to the 1500s, is a lively and rhythmic Christmas piece. It’s arranged as it might have been played and sung by a Renaissance wind band and church singers of that era. Verse lyrics are available in the original Latin, and also in an English-language paraphrase version, and are designed to feature various vocal soloists, each singing on their own verse, with a recurring refrain which is set in Medieval church Latin. Parts are available for various Renaissance instruments, as well as their modern equivalents. Wonderful showpiece for a Christmas madrigal dinner, holiday concert or church service, featuring instrumentalists along with your concert choir. Available in either SATB mixed-choir or TTBB male-choir versions, as recorded by the Haven Quartet on their 1997 album “Come Let Us Adore Him".
A Cappella (English and Latin versions) or with Flute Choir.
