Description

Inspired by the statues perched atop the YMCA in Waterloo, Iowa as seen at dawn, Green Ladies is a high-energy tenor feature that works well as a set opener or closer. The main theme is set in an up tempo swing groove, while a contrasting theme provides relief in a suspended feel. Written for the Iowa All-State jazz band, this piece has reasonable brass ranges and includes suggested voicings for piano and a mostly notated part for bass (chord symbols provided in the solo section). Drum set solos at the end to rachet up the intensity.
