Description
I Should Have Known was commissioned by Rich MacDonald for the JazzMN Orchestra in Minneapolis, conceived as a study in using simple rock/pop rhythmic devices and harmonic language to create a work for large ensemble. The entire piece is derived from the triadic repeating eighth note figure in the guitar heard in the opening measures, and draws heavily from the aesthetic and vibe of the rock band Radiohead throughout. Three distinct solo sections feature space for guitar/bass, trumpet/trombone, and piano.
