Description
Originally commissioned for Vern Sielert and the Oregon Jazz Ensemble, The Song in Mind is an energetic Brazilian-influenced chart with plenty for your rhythm section to chew on. This chart starts with twisting unison lines for trumpet, flute, clarinet and guitar, ends with a full ensemble fugue exposition, and features a trumpet solo throughout. A strong trumpet soloist, strong woodwind doubles, and an understanding of Brazilian claves and swing are needed to make this chart work but it yields an extremely rewarding closer.
