This composition is dedicated to the legends of jazz composition and arranging, who keep inspiring me to write music. What could be better suited as a foundation for the composition than the form of a blues! „Trailblazers“ is based on a minor blues with some added harmonic twists and turns. As a saxophone player I have always enjoyed playing these high-energy Big Band charts from the rich history of Big Band music and that’s why I wanted to write one for my own band as well. The chart features not only the baritone saxophone and trombone as main soloists, but the whole trombone section and the rest of the band get plenty to play in multiple tutti sections.
