Trumpet: D6, Trombone: Bb4
Any advanced ensembles with an interest in the style of the Brecker Brothers or Tower of Power will want to consider programming this engaging funk chart. Composed as a tribute to the “creative” driving skills exhibited by Guter’s fellow band member David Zapotocky, a baritone saxophonist, the chart features a lumbering, bari sax bass line throughout most of the piece, and extensive use of siren-like saxophone effects. The work alternates between swinging sixteenth-note funk (featuring an angular trumpet-tenor sax-guitar melody) and a harmonically-sophisticated straight-sixteenth note section. Solo changes with chord scale suggestions are provided for improvised solos by guitar and/or tenor sax followed by trumpet.
